Vietnam’s average Tet bonus in 2026 has reached 8.69 million VND per worker, marking a 13% increase compared to last year - a signal of improved income levels and labor policies ahead of the Lunar New Year.

According to Mr. Pham Truong Giang, Director of the Department of Wages and Social Insurance (Ministry of Home Affairs), this data comes from a comprehensive survey of over 50,000 businesses involving more than 4.2 million employees.

At a government press conference on February 4, Mr. Giang said the increase is attributed to the timely implementation of Decree 293, which raised the regional minimum wage by 7.2% starting January 1, 2026 - higher than the 6% adjustment in 2024.

“This early adjustment helped businesses prepare and created a positive mindset for workers ahead of the new year,” he noted.

Wage growth across business sectors:

Overall average salary (2025): 9.76 million VND/month → up 11%
State-owned enterprises (100% ownership): 12.89 million VND/month → up 18.2%
Private domestic enterprises: 8.66 million VND/month → up 7%
Foreign-invested enterprises (FDI): 10.17 million VND/month → up 9.6%

Tet bonus average by business type:

State-owned: 9.44 million VND/person → up 23%
Private domestic: 7.37 million VND/person → up 7.9%
FDI: 9.21 million VND/person → up 12%

The Ministry noted that this coordinated wage and bonus policy not only boosts employee incomes, but also helps stabilize the labor market, reduce turnover, and increase workplace loyalty - key factors for improving productivity and national growth in 2026.
