For Vietnam’s technology circle, Trung is an inspiring character. He is the founder and CEO of Sky Mavis, the studio that developed Axie Infinity, worth billions of dollars.

Trung’s talents and success are  recognized by all people. However, not everyone can understand the difficulties the man has experienced, especially when he discovered that his system was hacked and more than $600 million was withdrawn.

At a seminar held by Endeavor Vietnam several days ago, Trung for the first time told his story about what he did at the difficult moment.

Trung awoke to the attack when he was in a special situation – boarding a plane about to take off.

“Mixed thoughts arose in my mind at that moment. I wanted to keep watch, update information, and handle the problems, but I couldn’t do anything,” he recalled. 

Trung said he felt both sad and angry about the greed of the attackers. The theft of $600 million affects many people, including investors and gamers. This may lead to serious consequences if they take negative actions.

After minutes of emotional confusion, Trung quickly regained his composure. However, when the airplane landed and Trung returned home and saw his happy family members, he could not control his temper and burst into tears.

The days after the attack were the time when Trung and his co-workers wrapped up troubleshooting. The biggest problem was not the amount of money lost, but the feelings of the members of the company. 

If just one person was shocked or depressed, his negative energy would affect other people. The first thing that needed to be done was to control the feelings to make people feel secure and keep the operation stable.

After discussions, all the members of Sky Mavis decided to maintain Axie Infinity. According to Trung, in order to do that, there is only once choice - maintaining its reputation through remedial action by returning the money appropriated.

“What makes me feel happy is that after just a short time, in difficult conditions, the staff has done many things. They had to fix the problem, check the security system, provide information to the investigation agency and update the situation with investors to calm people down,” Trung said.

Just eight days later, Axie Infinity announced the successful fundraising of $150 million from Binance and many famous investment funds such as Animoca Brands, Dialectic, Paradigm and A16Z.

The money, plus the company’s funds, have been used to reimburse to users. This is the first time a project refunded 100 percent of money to users after attacks. No other blockchain project did this in the past.
