Bac Giang farmers enjoy good litchi crops this year

According to Tran Quang Tan, director of the Bac Giang Department of Industry and Trade, a delegation of Bac Giang Province’s officials recently came to Pingxiang City in Guangxi, China to hold a forum on litchi.

The event attracted hundreds of representatives from Chinese agencies and companies. Provincial authorities invited 80 Chinese companies to Bac Giang to buy litchi.

Tan said that litchi exported to China this year is hoped to account for around 40% of the province’s crop.

He also added that more than 300 representatives from companies inside and outside the country will come to Bac Giang on June 8 to study litchi harvesting preparations as well as visit litchi growing areas.

This year’s weather has been quite favourable, so the province predicts a 150,000-180,000 tonnes harvest. Growers have praised the quality of this year’s litchi.

Chinese traders bought litchi which was early harvested in Bac Giang this year at between VND15,000-40,000 per kilo, depending on different types.

Last year, some 30% of Bac Giang’s litchi was sold to Chinese traders, while 10% exported to other countries and the remainder consumed domestically.

At the forum, the Chinese side pledged to provide the most favourable conditions for customs clearance.
