According to Nguyen Tuan Anh, deputy director of the department, the “Ho Chickens - Thuan Thanh, Bac Ninh” collective trademark was granted a protection certificate by the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam on January 4, 2017.

The recognisation of the collective brand name for the Ho chickens will help to preserve and develop the precious gene pool and promote the product to consumers in the whole country, said Tuan.

Ho chickens have been mainly raised in Lac Tho hamlet, Ho town, for around 600 years.

An adult Ho chicken has an average weight of 4-6 kilograms and its meat is pink, fragrant and highly nutritious.

Due to the slow growth of Ho chickens and low successful rate of incubated eggs by hens, the number of the poultry raised is still limited.

According to statistics, there are around 100 households in Lac Tho hamlet raising the chicken with a total number of 1,500 chickens.

Each year, the hamlet provides the market with 10,000 young chickens and nearly 1,000 adult chickens.
