Despite being the smallest province in Vietnam by area, Bac Ninh has emerged as the country's second-largest exporter. At times, its export volume has even come remarkably close to surpassing top-ranked Ho Chi Minh City.
Bac Ninh recently became a trending topic with the release of the music video "Bac Bling" by singer Hoa Minzy in early March, captivating audiences both domestically and globally.
With an area of just 822.7 square kilometers, Bac Ninh is Vietnam’s smallest province. Its population of nearly 1.5 million ranks 22nd among the country's provinces.
However, the province is not only renowned for its rich historical and cultural heritage but also for its remarkable economic growth, being one of the leading industrial hubs in Vietnam.
Bac Ninh has pursued modern industrial development with around 20 concentrated industrial parks, making it an attractive destination for both domestic and international investors. The presence of global corporations such as Samsung, Canon, and Microsoft has significantly boosted the local economy.
Over the past decade, Bac Ninh’s export turnover has grown substantially, maintaining its position as the second-largest exporter in the country.
In 2015, Bac Ninh’s export turnover reached $21.5 billion, accounting for 13.2% of the national total, second only to Ho Chi Minh City. The province continued its upward trajectory from 2016 to 2018, with export figures reaching $22.1 billion, $29.6 billion, and $34.9 billion, respectively.
Although export turnover saw a slight decline in 2019 to just over $34 billion, Bac Ninh still held its top 2 position.
By the end of 2020, exports rebounded to $39.1 billion, trailing Ho Chi Minh City by just $5.4 billion. In 2021, Bac Ninh’s exports surged to $44.84 billion, falling behind the top position by only $40 million.
The year 2022 marked a record-breaking high for Bac Ninh, with exports nearing $45.1 billion, accounting for 12.1% of the national total.
However, export turnover decreased in the following years, falling to $39.3 billion in 2023 and $39 billion in 2024. Consequently, the province's share of national exports dropped to 9.6% in 2023, down 3.6% from 2015.
Nevertheless, Bac Ninh has consistently maintained its position as the second-largest exporter in Vietnam for the past decade. In 2025, the province aims to achieve an export turnover of $41.7 billion.
