The government approved an investment policy for the project in September to develop a specialized airport equivalent to a 3C category standard.
The project is being implemented to enable the People’s Public Security Air Force to conduct training flights and readiness missions using equipped helicopters. The airport will accommodate the takeoff and landing of helicopters such as the Chinook CH-47D, Mi-8, Mi-171, and Casa-295 transport aircraft.
Gia Binh Airport could also serve as a backup airport for regional airfields and airports in emergencies. It could accommodate aircraft such as the Su-27, Su-30, Embraer, ATR72, and equivalents.
With regard to the planning orientation, the airport will be developed as a security-defense model and a specialized airport, equivalent to a 4E category standard.
Accordingly, it has been planned to support the operation of special-purpose flights serving the Party and State leaders and international politicians, as well as transporting cargo and passengers as required, provided conditions are met.
At the December 3 conference, delegates reached a consensus coordination methods and implementation of tasks in the upcoming period to ensure the groundbreaking ceremony for the project is conducted on schedule.
