Son Tra Tinh Vien is a tranquil garden located in a valley in the Son Tra Peninsula Natural Reserve in Tho Quang ward.

Son Tra peninsula is a fragile gem in the sea city of Da Nang. Son Tra is a beautiful peninsula with long, white sandy beaches, picturesque landscapes and primeval forests – a favorite destination point four tourists.

The garden has over 10,000 square kilometers of natural forest and over 100 bamboo species. Of these, four are almost considered extinct in Vietnam and listed in the Red Book of Vietnam.

These include the Truc den Ha Giang (Phyllostachys nigra Munro); Truc Hoa Long (Phyllostachys); Truc Vuong (Chimonobambusa quadrangularis); Tre Mien Nam (Sirocalamus aff latiflorus McClure). 

The owner of the garden is monk Thich The Tuong who is devoted to Buddhism and has a strong love for Vietnamese bamboo.

Monk Thich The Tuong was born and grew up in the countryside, and his childhood was associated with village bamboo. To him, bamboo is an important symbol and cultural characteristic of Vietnamese. 

Over the past decade, he has been working hard to develop Son Tra Tinh Vien,  traveling to many areas of the country to collect bamboo trees to grow in Son Tra Tinh Vien. 

Each bamboo tree is identified with information about its origin and characteristics.

Because bamboo trees have been disappearing amid the strong development of urban areas, Tupng decided to protect the plant. 

Son Tra Tinh Vien is the only bamboo reserve in the central region and one of the two bamboo reserves in Vietnam. 

The garden is beloved by many people, and is known as the place that ‘retains the soul of Vietnamese bamboo’ with its beauty and simplicity. It is also a favorite destination for travelers.

Travelers visit Son Tra Tinh Vien to enjoy a peaceful environment typical of the Vietnamese countryside. There, they can listen to the sound of flowing water and rustling bamboo leaves.

Nguyen Thi Lan, a traveler from Hanoi, called Son Tra Tinh Vien a ‘wonderful world’. 

Monk Thich The Tuong takes pride in his bamboo garden. Son Tra Tinh Vien now receives travelers who visit to learn about Vietnamese culture.

The garden, with a collection of bamboo genes, is open to all visitor.

The monk also plans to develop a nursery garden to propagate bamboo species.
