A spectacular lunar trifecta combining a total eclipse with a blue moon and super moon could be seen in the skies above HCM City on January 31. Following are some photos of the astronomical phenomenon seen from HCM City as captured by the Voice of Vietnam’s reporter.

The lunar spectacle lasts for more than five hours from 5:51pm to 11:08pm. The full lunar eclipse takes place from 7:51pm to 9:07pm.

  Stargazers are in for a celestial treat with three astronomical events coinciding as a total eclipse, super moon, and blood moon harmonise visibly in the skies.

  A blue moon (a second full moon in a calendar month), a super moon (when the moon is unusually close to Earth, making it bigger and brighter) and a blood moon (a moment during an eclipse when the moon appears red) all coincided for the first time since 1866 to create a super blue blood moon in the skies above.
