Marksmen who win an Olympic medal will receive a big bonus from sponsors according to the Vietnam Shooting Federation.

Hoang Xuan Vinh, one of two Vietnamese shooters to compete at the Rio Olympic Games, is promised a huge bonus if he wins a medal.

Following the federation’s announcement on May 27, a gold winner will be awarded VNĐ1 billion (US$44,5000), a silver holder will take home VNĐ800 million (US$36,000), while a bronze medalist will bag VNĐ600 million (US$27,000) from the Sports Investment Joint Stock Company.

The South Korean Synopex Group has promised US$50,000 while Gallewatch, Vietnam’s official distributor pledged VNĐ100 million (US$4,500) for any medal that is brought home, in addition to other rewards.

It is the first time such huge bonuses from enterprises and groups have been offered to shooters from Vietnam.

Vietnam has two athletes, Hoang Xuan Vinh and Tran Quoc Cuong competing in the upcoming shooting competition at the Olympics in Brazil this August.
