VietNamNet Bridge - Apple’s legendary CEO Steve Jobs predicted that the biggest innovations of the 21st century will be the intersection of biology and technology.

Biotechnology has made great progress with great achievements from sheep cloning to human genome sequencing.  A report from EY cited the story of BenevolenBio in London as saying that AI and machine learning can help speed up the research of new medicines. BenevolenBio CEO Jackie Hunter affirmed that technology increases the success in R&D by four times.

Cao Anh Tuan, founder of Gene Friend Way, said: “Your and my genomes are 99 percent identical, but the other one percent makes up the difference, from skin color, to personality and potential," said.

Genetica technology developed exclusively by Gene Friend Way relies on a combination of artificial intelligence and gene decoding to address this matter.

Gene decoding technology can detect important genetic mutations and weaknesses in cancer cells, thus optimizing the treatment process. The cooperation of the technology and AI will help doctors research and develop new drugs, and serve the screening and prevention of cancer.

The project development team, with the founder, a Ph.D in computer science, who contributed to Google's AI-related activities, comprises another four members, who are PhDs from top 10 universities in the US. They have at least 10 years of experience in the field of gene research.

The competitiveness of Gene Friend Way lies in the fact that the company owns a specific chip customized to handle with Asian genomes. The chip is certified by Illumina as having high accuracy rate of over 99 percent.

Decoding gene of Asians is also a goal set by Gene Friend Way. Currently, other genetic analysis companies work based on the samples of white people, while the genomes of different races vary.

After working for MD Anderson Cancer Treatment & Research Hospital and having many research works honored, Dr Phan Minh Liem has returned to Vietnam with a hope of helping patients approach the new cancer treatment methods used in the world.

In July, Liem established the Vietnam - US Biomedical Institute (VUBI), which aims to screen and treat cancer more effectively through gene decoding.

“Cancer is a disease caused by genetic mutations. These carcinogenic mutations can be found early by gene decoding and genetic medical analysis," he explained.

Lam admitted that technology plays an increasingly important role in biotechnology. AI not only analyses genes, but also checks mutant data banks, drug data banks, medical records and scientific publications.
