Update news birth rate
Prof Dr Nguyen Dinh Cu, former director of the Institute for Population and Social Issues, said he once “got goosebumps” when he heard a young woman’s question “I do not understand why we should have children.”
A baby girl was born at the 37th week as per the family’s request for an "auspicious date" but showed signs of respiratory distress after birth.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) has proposed budgeting VND650 billion to support women who have two children before age 35, and over VND151 billion in financial incentives for families with two daughters to address the record-low birth rate.
Vietnam’s birth rate currently stands at 1.91 children per woman, positioning the country among the five with the lowest fertility rates in Southeast Asia.
