At 5.30pm on April 20, at the house of Mr. Tran Van Ton, 71, in Hiep Hoa commune, Kinh Mon district, Hai Duong province, a blast occurred, killing on the spot Ms. Vu Thi Thuy, 26, from My Duc district, Hanoi, and seriously injuring Mr. Tran Van Chung, 29, Mr. Ton’s son.
According to investigators, in the afternoon of the same day, at about 3pm, Thuy rode her bike from her home in Hanoi to Tran Van Chung’s house in Hai Duong. That was the wedding day of Chung and a woman named Ninh. When Thuy arrived at Chung’s house, the wedding was done.
Knowing that Thuy is Chung’s ex-girlfriend, Chung’s new wife and family members let them talk person to person. At around 5.30pm, Thuy stood up to leave. Chung followed Thuy to the yard, where her motorcycle parked. Just then, a loud explosion came from the motorcycle. When people rushed out, they saw Thuy and Chung lying in a pool of blood and the motorcycle was damaged.
Thuy and Chung were taken to hospital but Thuy died shortly after the explosion while Chung was seriously injured.
An investigator said the scene was too miserable because the female victim was “blown up,” the male victim’s body was dense with hundreds of plastic pieces and the motorcycle was broken.

Shortly after the wedding, the new bride had to take her husband to the hospital. On the afternoon of April 23, she told VietNamNet that Chung was out of danger.
According to Maj. Nguyen Minh Truong of Hai Duong Provincial Police, it was lucky when the explosion occurred, that others were standing far from the motorcycle.
Hai Duong Provincial Police examined the scene and initially determined that the explosion was caused by an explosive set in the trunk of the motorcycle. The police seized three cell phones and a few specimens which showed that the explosion was caused by explosive. The samples were taken for assessment.
The investigators determined that Thuy was the one who set the explosion and she died in the blast.
According to the testimony of Chung’s father, the family did not allow Chung to marry Thuy because according to fortune-teller, they are “inappropriate” with each other. They broke up later and Chung got married with another girl. Thuy took revenge by making the blast after Chung’s wedding.
Reportedly, Ms. Thuy was an accountant for a firm in Cau Giay District, Hanoi, and Chung is a postgraduate. She was born in a family in Hoai Duc district, Hanoi.
The police are searching the origins of the explosive.
Because the victim died, the police did not prosecute the case.
