The police yesterday detained blogger HonHai for distributing anti-state information, an official has confirmed.

A statement by the HCMC Police about the detainment of blogger Ho Van Hai.

Ho Van Hai, 52, was arrested in HCM City last night at his home in Thu Duc District.

He was accused of "spreading information and documents on the internet that are against the government of the Social Republic of Viet Nam," according to a statement by the HCM City police.

Colonel Nguyen Sy Quan, spokesperson of the city police, said in the past, Hai had distributed anti-state documents and allegedly violated Article 88 of the Criminal Code. 

He also said the department would investigate and handle Hai’s violations in accordance with the law. Hai’s Facebook page and blog were inaccessible as of last night.
