VietNamNet Bridge - Most network operators provide high-speed internet service with the speed of 20 Mpbs or more, but they still cannot satisfy demand for associated services such as IPTV, VOD, Video Conference and IP Camera.

According to Internet World Stars, the number of internet users in 2017 in Asia is expected to account for half of the total number of users around the globe (49.6 percent).

Vietnam ranks sixth in Asia and 17th out of 20 countries in the world with the highest numbers of internet users.

The most updated report by the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) showed that in April 2013, Vietnam had 210,000 fiber optic subscribers, while the figure soared to 4.5 million in April 2016. Of these, 37 percent are fixed broadband subscribers.

The most updated report by the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) showed that in April 2013, Vietnam had 210,000 fiber optic subscribers, while the figure soared to 4.5 million in April 2016. Of these, 37 percent are fixed broadband subscribers.

However, the latest report of Akamai showed that the average internet access speed in Vietnam is just 8.3 Mbps, quite different from the speed of 20-30 Mbps in service packages that subscribers register for.

Pham Anh Chien, director of VTV Digital, said broadband services being provided still cannot catch up with development and demand.

Theoretically, the network speed is high enough for video play, but that's not the case. Stuttering problems usually exist in broadcasting video on internet TV.

The network speed is not the only factor that ensures the quality of video service. It also depends on the content nature.

Meanwhile, as demand for watching TV on internet is high, many millions of people may watch TV at the same time. If so, a local jam will happen.

“This is a difficult question related to investment scale and bandwidth allocation that needs to be solved by telcos,” Chien concluded.

Since the problem cannot be solved overnight, some network operators have offered a new solution – Leased Line Internet -- with dedicated and independent fiber optical transmission infrastructure, specifically offered to offices and companies which have high demand for service quality.

However, the solution is not suitable for families because of high prices and unused features.

The high-quality and stable service packages now provided include Viettel’s Fast 20 with domestic bandwidth of 20 Mbps and international bandwidth of 256 bps and FPT Telecom’s F2-F5 packages with bandwidth of 22-45 Mbps with the subscription fee of VND220,000-370,000 a month.
