Samdech Say Chhum, acting head of state of Cambodia and President of the Cambodian Senate highly valued the support of Hanoi for Phnom Penh during his meeting with Secretary of the Hanoi Party’s Committee Hoang Trung Hai on September 9.

At the meeting in Phnom Penh, Say Chhum, who is also Vice President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), said he will make all-out efforts to deepen the comprehensive cooperation between the two States as well as between the CPP and the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). 

The host said he will continue instructing committees of the Cambodian Senate to back policies on cooperation between the two countries. The Cambodian Senate will also enhance partnerships with committees of the Vietnam National Assembly, especially in the exchange of experience in law-making, supervision and decision-making on the country’s major matters.  

He also pledged to create the best possible conditions for Vietnamese people in Cambodia so that they can have stable life and contribute to the host country’s development. 

For his part, Hai congratulated Cambodia on its successful election at communal level and noted his belief that under the reign of King Norodom Sihamoni and the leadership of the Cambodian Senate, the National Assembly and the Royal Government, Cambodian people will overcome all challenges to gain greater achievements in building a country of peace, independence, democracy and social progress. 

While in Cambodia, Hai also met with President of the CPP’s Phnom Penh chapter Pa Socheatevong. 

Host and guest affirmed that they will do their utmost to deepen the comprehensive cooperation between the two parties. 

They agreed to continue instructing departments and agencies of Hanoi and Phnom Penh to tighten their collaboration in economy, trade and tourism. 

On September 10, Hai and his entourage laid wreaths and offered incense at the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monument in Phnom Penh, one of the 17 monuments in Cambodia dedicated to volunteer Vietnamese soldiers who died during wartime in the country. 

They also visited the Phnom Penh-Hanoi Friendship Avenue which is being built with the financial support of Hanoi.

Hanoi, Phnom Penh urged to promote partnership

Vietnam and Cambodia should pay greater attention to creating optimal conditions for their ministries and localities, including Hanoi and Phnom Penh, to expand partnership in all fields, said Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.

At a reception in Phnom Penh on September 9 for Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai, PM Hun Sen, who is also President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party, said that the two capital cities should increase the sharing of information and experience in urban management, and strengthen people-to-people contact.

He stressed that in any circumstances, he will do his utmost to deepen the relations with Vietnam.

For his part, Hai briefed his host on the cooperation outcomes between the two capital cities.

Hanoi offered over 5 million USD to Phnom Penh to build the Phnom Penh-Hanoi Boulevard in the hope of contributing to the growth of Cambodia, he noted.

Hai also expressed his belief that the CPP will continue steering Cambodia to achieve new, greater national development successes in the future.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of issues of shared concern, including the planning, infrastructure development, urban management, as well as policies for enterprises to invest in each other, and the support for the Vietnamese community in Cambodia and Phnom Penh in particular.

The same day, Hai and the Hanoi delegation held talks with Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng. 

Hai said that his visit aims to reinforce and develop the solidarity and friendship between the two countries and the two capital cities in particular and it forms part of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic ties.

The Hanoi leader stressed that Hanoi is ready to increase cooperation activities with Phnom Penh in all fields.

He noted that over the past years, Hanoi has worked hard to assist Phnom Penh to build many public works, including the Phnom Penh-Hanoi Boulevard and Phnom Daun Penh primary schools worth 2 million USD.

Khuong Sreng thanked Hanoi for effective help in the construction and development of Phnom Penh.

The two sides agreed to promote collaboration activities in all fields for the growth of both sides, saying the talks laid down a new foundation for the two cities’ cooperation.

Within the framework of the visit from September 8-10, Hai and the Hanoi delegation had meetings with the Vietnamese Embassy’s officials, Speaker of the Senate Say Chhum and President of the CPP Organization of Phnom Penh Pa Socheatevong.

HCM City fosters inspection cooperation with Cambodia

Huynh Cach Mang, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, on September 8 received Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection Chheng Saroeun. 

At the meeting, Mang highlighted the cooperation between HCM City and Cambodian ministries and agencies over the past time, which, he said, is thriving across fields as reflected by the exchange of delegations and visits. 

HCM City always treasures and try its best to promote relations between Vietnam and Cambodia, as well as between HCM City and Cambodian localities, especially the capital city of Phnom Penh, he said. 

The official expressed his hope that relations between the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam, HCM City’s inspection agency and the Cambodian Ministry of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection will be enhanced in the time ahead through the sharing of experience, mutual support and specific, practical cooperation. 

Echoing Mang’s views, Chheng Saroeun noted his wish that the Cambodian ministry and HCM City’s inspection agency will step up bilateral cooperation, contributing to the cause of national construction and development in each country.
