The National Assembly Standing Committee submitted to the NA a list of candidates for the positions of NA Vice Chair and member of the NA Standing Committee, the 13th tenure, during a plenary session on April 4.

The candidates for the position of NA Vice Chair are Phung Quoc Hien, Party Central Committee member, incumbent member of the NA Standing Committee and Chairman of the NA Finance-Budget Committee; and General Do Ba Ty, Party Central Committee member, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence.

Meanwhile, seven candidates were named for election to the NA Standing Committee.

NA deputies then discussed in group the list of candidates.

Later, President Tran Dai Quang submitted to the NA a proposal for approval of a diplomatic note on an agreement between Vietnam and the US regarding visa issuance.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh presented a report on the diplomatic note.

Deputy Hoang Thanh Tung of Soc Trang province voiced his support of the agreement, saying that it matches the growing ties between the two countries in all fields.

Summing up the opinions, NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong said the NA agreed to allow the issuance of one-year visa for US citizens. Based on the report and deputies’ opinions, the NA Standing Committee will prepare a resolution on approving the diplomatic note in line with the Constitution and laws.

The NA is scheduled to elect NA Vice Chairmen and a number of NA Standing Committee members in the afternoon in the form of secret ballot.
