There are many candidates for the Number 2 billionaire position

Bloomberg has reported that the owner of the country’s only private air carrier VietJet Air Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao may become the first female dollar billionaire and the second billionaire in Vietnam.

The newswire reported that Thao has net asset value exceeding $1 billion after the carrier’s initial public offering. Her assets also include a real estate project covering an area of 65 hectares in HCM City, and capital contribution to three big resorts. She also has stakes in HDBank.

Prior to that, in a report released in late 2014, a Swiss bank affirmed that two Vietnamese citizens are listed among the world’s super-rich billionaires with the total assets of $3 billion. However, their names were not specified.

In fact, there are many other names which could be candidates for Number 2 billionaire with asset value exceeding $1 billion. However, their assets have not been verified and recognized.

Nguyen Thi Nga, president of BRG and SeABank, is one of them. The businesswoman and her conglomerate were behind a series of impressive takeover deals, including the Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel, Thang Loi Hotel, Song Nhue Hotel, Intimex (retail chain) and Vietfrach (freight & forwarder).

BRG also comprises many other subsidiaries, including SeABank, Kings' Island Golf Resort, Seaside Golf Resort in Hai Phong and Legend Hill - Legend Hill Golf Resort in Hanoi.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao may become the first female dollar billionaire and the second billionaire in Vietnam.

Dao Hong Tuyen, who is called ‘Tuan Chau Island’s King’, has been rumored as having $2 billion. He is the only Vietnamese person who dares build a road with the length of 2 kilometers that connects the mainland and an island, and turns the deserted island into a tourism paradise.

In mid-2014, Tuyen signed a cooperation contract worth VND10 trillion with LienViet Post Bank to carry out a series of the group’s large projects on the infrastructure, tourism and technology development.

Vu Van Tien, who was behind a series of business affairs worth trillions of dong, could also be a candidate for the position of the Number 2 billionaire.

The tycoon was described as ‘having cash flow of up to several billions of dollars’.

Tien’s business, Geleximco, is one of the Vietnamese large conglomerates which carries out the projects capitalized at trillions of dong, including Geleximco and Le Trong Tan new urban areas.

Some other businessmen are believed to become dollar billionaires at any times once their businesses list shares on the bourse. However, like many other Vietnamese, they don’t want to have the information about their assets exposed.
