Dat came second in the men’s nandao (southern broadsword) event with 9.66 points.

He was just 0.01 point below winner Huang Jun Hua of Macao.

Lai Po Wei of Chinese Taipei came third with 9.65 points.

Dat’s teammate Pham Quoc Khanh also competed in this pool but his performance earned him the disappointing finish of 19th place. Khanh was the champion of this event in 2007 when he was 17.

Viet Nam have now won one gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the world competition.

The team currently stand at sixth position. They are going to earn at least three silvers from sanda (combat) events, as three Vietnamese have advanced to final matches.

China, Hong Kong and Indonesia secure the three top rankings, respectively.
