Today, January 2, a rescue operation led by the 918th Flotilla of the 189th Submarine Brigade successfully brought the Petrolimex 11 to safety and towed it to shore.
The Petrolimex 11, a large cargo ship measuring 175.9 meters in length and 31 meters in width, was en route from Malaysia to Hon Gai Port in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, carrying goods.
On January 1, while passing through the waters off Khanh Hoa, the ship suffered a critical engine failure that rendered it inoperable.
Adrift and uncontrollable, the vessel drifted approximately 20 nautical miles southeast of Cam Ranh Bay, leaving its 25 crew members in a state of panic.
The ship’s captain issued a distress signal, seeking urgent assistance.
Responding to the emergency, Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Van Thuong, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 189th Submarine Brigade, directed the 991 rescue ship of the 918th Flotilla to the scene.
Despite navigating through rough seas with waves reaching levels 6 to 7, the rescue team managed to reach the distressed vessel after hours of effort.
Medical aid was provided to the crew, who were then stabilized.
The rescuers connected tow lines to the Petrolimex 11 and successfully brought it to a designated anchorage near Vinh Tan commune, Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province.
