Deputies of the HCMC People’s Council on June 28 elected Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam chairwoman of the council and Nguyen Thanh Phong chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee for the 2016-2021 term.

Tam, 58, was elected on June 28 at the first meeting of the ninth HCMC People’s Council. She was chair of the council in 2011-2016 and is a National Assembly deputy of the 13th and 14th tenures. 

Her two deputies for the new term are Truong Thi Anh, 57, and Pham Duc Hai, 53. Anh was vice chair of the council in the 2011-2016 term while Hai is now deputy head of the HCMC Party Committee’s Ideology and Education Commission.

Meanwhile, Le Thanh Liem, Le Van Khoa, Huynh Cach Mang, Tran Vinh Tuyen and Nguyen Thi Thu are vice chairs of the HCMC People’s Committee in the 2016-2021 term.

Deputies of the council also voted heads of the committees under the HCMC People’s Council and 22 members of the HCMC People’s Committee for the 2016-2021 tenure.
