Chien, who is placed fifth in the rankings of the World Union of Billiards (UMB), was placed in Group E alongside Kim Jun-tae of the RoK, who ranks in 13th position; Seo Chang-hoon of the RoK, 26th place; and Goren Mehmet of Turkey, 102th place.
In the first and second matches, the local player struggled with his poor performance leading to him being defeated 40-36 by Goren Mehmet and 40-32 by Seo Chang-hoon of the RoK.
Elsewhere, his teammate Thai also finished third place in Group C and subsequently bowed out of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese cueist Bao Phuong Vinh, world No.11, successfully beat Van Etten Sam of the Netherlands, world No. 65, and Peter Cuelemans of Belgium, world No.23, in Group G.
He just only lost to Eddy Merckx of Belgium, world No.6. Following the result, Vinh earned a place to enter the knockout stage where he will face off against Daniel Morales of Colombia, who ranks 169th in the world.
Most notably, talented Vietnamese billard player Tran Thanh Luc enjoyed three wins over Dick Jaspers of the Netherlands, world No.3; Heo Jung-han of RoK, world No,14; and Omer Karakurt of Turkey, world No,62.
With these impressive performances, Luc duly topped Group D.
