VietNamNet Bridge - In the afternoon, in the sweltering heat of June, hundreds of children in the outskirts of Hanoi go to the village pond and natural lakes to bathe and play with cool water.
Every afternoon, hundreds of people in Sai Son commune (Quoc Oai District, Hanoi) go to the Da Phuc village pond to bathe.
Mr. Phuc, 65, said: "The village pond is large, the water runs down from the mountain so our villagers bathe here. Every summer, I take my grandchildren to the village pond to bathe and to teach them how to swim."
Though the pond is quite deep, up to 4-5 meters at some places,
due to hot weather, many people still swim. To prevent accidents,
children are equipped with lifejackets.
This pond was built in the Ly Dynasty so many generations in the village have used the pond. In the middle of the pond is a pavilion, formerly used as a venue for water puppetry performances.
In the neighboring commune of Thuong Lam, Quan Son Lake, a tourist site, is also the place where local children bathe and play every afternoon.
This is a natural freshwater lake of up to 850 hectares.
Ngoc Anh, 4 years old, practices swimming under the guidance of her grandfather.
