Police in HCMC on the night of March 27 arrested a Chinese man for illegally transporting 400 kilograms of heroin in District 12.

A representative of the HCMC Department of Police today, March 28, told Thanh Nien newspaper that An Suong traffic police, under the Road-Railway Traffic Police Division (PC08), patrolling An Suong intersection that night had grown suspicious of a pickup truck.

They pulled the truck over to check it and discovered some 900 packages of heroin hidden in the vehicle.

The police detained the Chinese suspect and impounded the truck.

The competent agencies also arrested a Vietnamese suspect involved in the case, according to the newspaper.

The municipal police are launching an extended investigation into the case and have raided many locations in the city’s outlying areas, seeking hidden drugs, said the police representative.
