Quang Ninh People's Committee has approved a pilot plan to allow private cars to travel between Vietnam’s Mong Cai Town and China’s Dongxing City from 2017.

Chinese tourists cars will be allowed to pass Mong Cai Border Gate in Quang Ninh Province from 2017

The plan, which is expected to boost tourism between the two countries, will allow tourists driving cars of up to nine seats to travel and stay in the country for three days.

They can extend their stay for one more day in case of accident or if their vehicle needs repairs.

Tourists have to come in groups of five to twenty cars.

Chinese cars will not be allowed to leave Mong Cai for other cities and provinces in Vietnam.

According to Quang Ninh authorities, each side will appoint a tourism agency to help drivers with relevant procedures.

In Vietnam, Hong Gai Tourism and Services JSC will be in charge in Mong Cai.
