The appointment, effective June 1, 2026, comes as CMC prepares for a new growth cycle spanning 2026-2030 and follows a milestone year in which the company surpassed VND 10.5 trillion (USD 405.9 million) in annual revenue for the first time in its 33-year history.

In fiscal year 2025, CMC reported revenue of more than VND 10.554 trillion, up 17% year-on-year. EBITDA increased 18%, while profit before tax rose 23%. The company views these results as a springboard for its next strategic chapter, with AI-X - its AI transformation strategy - at the center of future growth.

Leadership transition signals a deeper transformation

According to CMC, the appointment represents more than a routine executive change. It forms part of the Group's broader second transformation strategy, designed to reposition the company for the AI era.

While CMC's first transformation, launched in 2017, focused on digital transformation, the next phase will embed artificial intelligence across every aspect of the organization, from governance and operations to product development, service delivery and international expansion.

"That is also why CMC has chosen 'Accelerate Your AI-X' as the message for its new phase of development," said Nguyen Trung Chinh, Chairman of the Board, Executive Chairman of CMC Corporation.

"We believe AI will be the most important growth driver of the next decade. To realize our goal of becoming a billion-dollar digital technology and AI company, CMC needs a young, energetic leadership team that is ready to innovate and accelerate even more strongly," he added.

The leadership transition reflects CMC's belief that AI will fundamentally reshape business models, competitive advantages and value creation in the years ahead.

A long-time strategist takes the helm

Before becoming Group CEO, Dang Tung Son served as Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of CMC Corporation.

With more than two decades of experience in the ICT industry and nearly 15 years within the Group, he has played a key role in shaping CMC's strategic direction across business development, market expansion, digital infrastructure and corporate transformation.

Mr. Son has been directly involved in several of the company's most important strategic initiatives, including the Digital Hub strategy for 2019-2022, the AI transformation roadmap for 2024-2026, the national AI-X initiative and CMC's second transformation strategy for 2026-2030 with a vision extending to 2035.

His track record is particularly visible at CMC Telecom, where he contributed to a period of sustained growth that saw revenue achieve a compound annual growth rate of 18% between 2019 and 2025.

Today, CMC Telecom provides digital infrastructure services to all banking and financial institutions in Vietnam, commands approximately 60% of the banking sector's data center and disaster recovery market, serves more than 70% of multinational corporations in the Forbes Top 100 and supports over half of the enterprises listed in the VNR500.

Mr. Son also played a key role in developing CMC Cloud into one of Vietnam's leading enterprise cloud platforms. He helped expand strategic partnerships with AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft, while contributing to the deployment of Cloud Express, which enables direct connectivity to regional cloud hubs.

In the field of international connectivity, he was instrumental in helping CMC Telecom achieve MEF CE 2.0 and MEF 3.0 certifications and served as a founding representative of the MEF Southeast Asia Council.

Beyond his business achievements, Mr. Son is widely recognized within the Group for his commitment to talent development and organizational learning. Since 2018, he has repeatedly been named "CMC Group's Most Loved Internal Lecturer," sharing knowledge and experience with thousands of employees across the corporation.

He is also known for promoting a culture of resilience and continuous improvement through sports initiatives, actively supporting Ironman and running communities within the company.

Mr. Son graduated in Information Technology from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, earned a Master's degree in Telecommunications from Sorbonne University Pierre and Marie Curie in France, and holds an MBA from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.

"This is a great honor, but also a major challenge for the new generation of CMC leaders, especially as the Group enters a new phase of development," Mr. Son said after assuming his new role.

"Chairman Nguyen Trung Chinh has repeatedly emphasized that the time has come for CMC to take on difficult challenges in order to create new breakthroughs. I therefore accept this responsibility with the highest level of confidence, aspiration and determination. In my new role, I am committed to placing the interests of the collective and the Group at the forefront of every strategy and decision. I look forward to continuing to receive the support, unity and companionship of our member companies and 6,000 employees across the Group, so that together we can accelerate, uphold our spirit of discipline, strengthen our commitment to customers and successfully realize CMC's five-year and ten-year goals," he said.

Building an AI-driven business ecosystem

Under its 2026-2030 strategy, CMC has organized its operations around five core business divisions: Digital Infrastructure, Technology & Solutions, New Technology & Strategic Technology, Global Business, and Education & Talent Development.

The structure is designed to integrate the Group's capabilities across data infrastructure, cloud computing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, software development, international technology services and workforce training.

The Digital Infrastructure Division focuses on cloud services, data centers, connectivity and cybersecurity platforms. The Technology & Solutions Division applies technological capabilities to solve customer challenges across industries. The New Technology & Strategic Technology Division is responsible for developing core AI platforms and strategic products, while the Global Business Division drives international market expansion.

Meanwhile, the Education & Talent Development Division plays a critical role in preparing technology talent for the AI era, supporting the Group's long-term growth ambitions.

CMC first unveiled its AI transformation strategy in 2024 under the banner "Enable Your AI-X." According to the company, AI-X goes beyond deploying artificial intelligence in isolated business functions. Instead, it represents a comprehensive transformation of operating models, organizational capabilities, products, services and customer value creation.

Aligning with Vietnam's national ambitions

CMC's second transformation strategy coincides with Vietnam's broader push to accelerate science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation.

Resolution 57-NQ/TW identifies science and technology, innovation and national digital transformation as strategic breakthrough priorities capable of generating new growth momentum and strengthening the country's competitiveness.

At the same time, Resolution 68-NQ/TW on private-sector development highlights the growing role of private enterprises in innovation, technology adoption, digital transformation and participation in global value chains.

Against this backdrop, Vietnamese technology companies are increasingly expected to expand beyond domestic markets and play a larger role in developing digital infrastructure, strategic technologies and sovereign AI capabilities.

With more than 6,000 employees, a growing international footprint and a network of member companies operating in Vietnam and overseas markets, CMC sees itself as well positioned to contribute to that ambition.

According to company leadership, investments in AI platforms, cloud infrastructure, data centers, cybersecurity, Made-by-CMC AI products and technology talent development are closely aligned with Vietnam's long-term development priorities.

As the company enters its next phase of growth, the appointment of Dang Tung Son signals CMC's intention to place AI at the heart of its strategy - not only as a technology platform, but as the foundation for its future competitiveness on both the regional and global stage.
