Police in northern Lao Cai Province on Wednesday evening discovered a coach carrying more than one tonne of explosive material and precursors on National Highway 279 in Van Ban District.

Police in northern Lao Cai Province seize more than one tonne of explosive illegally transported by coach. 

The explosive material was hidden in 43 bags weighing over 865 kg, while some 300kg of precursor NH4NO3 was packed in six bags.

Coach driver Tran Ngoc Anh, 35, of Yen Bai Province, told the police he was hired to transport the goods from a man in Van Yen District, Yen Bai Province, to Minh Luong Commune in Van Ban District, Lao Cai Province.

He was paid VNĐ8 million (US$353).

Police are investigating the case.
