A coach carrying 23 teachers and students plunged into a ravine while driving across Hai Van Pass in Thua Thien-Hue Province on January 8, leaving one student dead and many others injured, the local media reported.

Rescuers approach the upturned coach 


At 01:00 p.m., a 30-seat coach carrying a delegation of students and teachers from Kien Giang College veered off the road into the ravine and got upturned.

Duong Dang Trung, chairman of Lang Co Town in Thua Thien-Hue Province's Phu Loc District, was cited by Tuoi Tre Online as saying that a series of ambulances were being mobilized to the scene for rescue efforts. Besides this, Thua Thien-Hue Province also dispatched a number of firefighters to the scene.

Le Duc Nhan, director of Danang Hospital, noted that apart one who had died at the scene, one among the first victims admitted to the hospital had lost an arm. He added that the hospital had received nine victims, all suffering multiple injuries.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Rang, a representative of a traffic police station in Danang City, stated that the police had cordoned off the road to Hai Van Pass and temporarily stopped vehicles from passing the area to facilitate the rescue efforts.
