According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a new cold front will begin affecting the northeastern region of Vietnam early on January 31. It is then expected to spread to the North Central Coast, the northwestern region, and parts of the central provinces.

From early morning on January 31, winds over land will shift to northeasterly at levels 2–3, and up to level 3–4 along the coast. Northern and north-central provinces are expected to experience scattered rain and drizzle overnight from January 30 into January 31.
Starting January 31, the northeastern region will turn cold, with some mountainous areas seeing significantly colder conditions. From the night of January 31, the northwestern and north-central regions (excluding Dien Bien and Lai Chau) will also experience colder weather.
During this cold spell, the lowest temperatures in the North and North Central Coast are expected to range from 12–15°C. In mountainous areas, temperatures could fall to 9–12°C, with high-elevation regions potentially dropping below 8°C.
In Hanoi, January 31 will bring overcast skies and drizzly, cold weather due to the impact of the cold front. The lowest temperature is expected to be between 13–15°C. By February 1, skies will clear but temperatures will remain low.
From February 1 to the night of February 3, the cold air will also cause scattered rain and thunderstorms from Quang Tri to Da Nang and in eastern parts of Quang Ngai to Gia Lai. Isolated heavy downpours, lightning, and strong gusts may occur during storms.
In the Central Highlands and the South, nights will be mostly dry with some scattered showers, and daytime conditions will remain sunny. The Central Highlands will continue to feel chilly during the night and early morning.
The national weather agency has advised residents to take measures to stay warm and protect crops and livestock. Fishermen should stay updated on weather changes and avoid going offshore during periods of strong winds or rough seas.
