The front of a passenger coach is badly damaged due to a crash between it and a container truck on February 18 on a road leading to Hai Van Pass Tunnel

The accident occurred at around 12:10 p.m. today, February 18, on the road south of the tunnel in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District, in the central coastal city of Danang.

The passenger coach, driven by Nguyen Van Thai, 45, a resident of the city’s Hai Chau District, encroached onto the opposite lane and crashed into the container truck, whose driver was identified as Dang Quang Thanh, 58, from Binh Dinh District.

Aside from leaving 11 people on the coach injured, the head-on collision left both vehicles badly damaged, particularly the front of the passenger coach, and created serious traffic congestion in the area. The injured were immediately rushed to hospital.

The competent agencies arrived quickly at the scene to handle the case.

By 1:30 p.m., local traffic police and the pass tunnel’s management unit jointly helped regulate traffic through one lane.

Over the past few months, traffic accidents have been a frequent occurrence on Hai Van Pass and in the pass tunnel, leaving many people dead or injured, including an incident early last month where a vehicle overturned on the pass, leaving one fatality and over 10 college students from Kien Giang Province injured.

Meanwhile, the most recent accident in the pass tunnel on the night of January 26 left five people severely injured.
