A 21-year-old Colombian woman was caught at HCM City’s Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport with 1.6 kilogrammes of cocaine last Sunday night.

According to city customs, officers scanning Soracipa Monroy Claudia Stephanny’s checked-in luggage had a suspicion and broke it open to find a plastic bag containing a white powder inside the lining.

They took a sample of the powder to check and found it to be cocaine. The city’s PC54 Security Police Department, which had taken a sample, came up with the same conclusion.

She had arrived aboard an Emirates flight from Dubai.

The customs department said the woman admitted she had been hired by an American stranger to carry the drug and she had flown from Colombia through Brazil and Dubai to Việt Nam.

The case has been transferred to the city’s PC47 Security Police Department for further investigation.
