Major commercial centres like Diamond Plaza, Pearl Center, The Oxygen, Parkson Cantavil that are located on prime locations in HCM City and were once bustling sites have fallen quiet.
As opposed to being crowded as usual on the weekends, trading hubs around the southern metropolis have been largely left deserted.
The 5th floor is home to many famous F&B brands. In the near future, this place will welcome the 2nd store in Vietnam of the famous coffee chain from Japan - %Arabica.
A similar situation occurs in Pearl Center which is the first commercial centre in Thao Dien urban area, spans an area of 20,000 square metres, and was put into operation in 2014.
"I often come here to take photos because the outdoor space is very nice, but when shopping, I prioritize other shopping centers because there are more choices in price and variety of stalls," said a woman. Currently, this place has less than 50% of the floor used, many stalls have been abandoned for a long time.
Many stores remain closed due to the recent downturn.
One of the largest shopping centres in Ho Chi Minh City even records no customers in some of its shops over the weekend.
In 2017, The Oxygen shopping complex of more than 8,000m2 in The Vista luxury building in District 2 was opened with many utility services. This shopping center is also in a similar situation. The entrance to the mall in the ground floor is closed.
A similarly quiet atmosphere can be found at The Oxygen commercial centre which is located in District 2, covers an area of 8,000 square metres, and came into operation in 2017.
The entertainment area is left fairly empty.
A restaurant has been shut down for months in Parkson Cantavil commercial centre.
Very few people can be seen going shopping these days.
