Vietnamese Facebook users have complained that the Paracel and Spratly islands were included in the map column of the Advertisement app on Facebook relevant to China.
Many advertisers have said that they will stop advertising on Facebook unless the company fixes and update their Map app.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications has also asked Facebook to explain their decision but haven’t received a reply.
Vietnam was Facebook's seventh largest market with 64 million users as of July 2017, accounting for 3% of the total Facebook users worldwide.
In 2015, Google removed the Sansha reference on Google Maps following opposition from Vietnam.
