On August 16, State President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc extended congratulatory messages to Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo on his country’s 71st Independence Day (August 17).

On the same day, Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh extended her greetings to her counterpart Yusuf Kalla. 

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh cabled his congratulations to Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

Vietnam and Indonesia established diplomatic ties in 1955 and upgraded their comprehensive partnership to a strategic partnership in June 2013.

Both nations are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
