VietNamNet Bridge – The construction of the first subway route in HCM City, which will be nearly 20km in length, is underway. The $2.4 billion work is taking shape day after day.
The Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien route is divided into several sections for construction. The first section from Ben Thanh Market to Ba Son Port has three underground stations. For construction of the first underground station, workers have cleared a large area at the downtown intersection of Le Loi and Nguyen Hue streets in District 1.
The fountain in front of the City People's Committee, which had been the city’s symbol for a century, was removed. A 2-3 metre-high steel fence has been erected around the construction area. The two other underground stations will be built at Ben Thanh Market and Ba Son Port.
After the underground section, there will be 17.1 km elevated line, with 11 stations. In the picture is the elevated section behind the Ba Son shipyard, near Nguyen Huu Canh Street (District 1).
The route runs through Dien Bien Phu Street, across the Saigon River and along the Hanoi Highway.

Pillars under the Saigon River are also being built.
"The weather in Saigon in the last few days has changed very often, affecting our work. However, we have to try to build the subway at the right pace," a worker said.
The bridge across the Saigon River for the subway route is 38 m from the existing Saigon Bridge. It is over 11 m wide, with two lanes.

After crossing the Saigon River, the route will run parallel with the Hanoi Highway and end at the Suoi Tien Amusement Park. The entire metro line will go through the districts of 1, 2, 9, Binh Thanh, Thu Duc and Di An district of Binh Duong province.
