General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong applauded cooperation between the Vietnamese and Lao Governments at a reception for Lao Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone in Hanoi on October 24.

He also spoke highly of outcomes of the talks between Deputy PM Sonexay Siphandone and his Vietnamese counterpart Truong Hoa Binh. 

The Party leader urged the two Governments to instruct ministries, agencies, localities and businesses to proactively work together to effectively realise Vietnam-Laos joint statements, high-level agreements reached by leaders of the CPV and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) as well as the two countries, cooperation agreements between the two Governments, along with joint programmes and plans. 

The two sides should focus on the exchange of information, experience and measures to materialise resolutions adopted at national congresses of each Party, he said. 

The General Secretary called for joint efforts to prepare for the 40th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee, and organise activities marking the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017.

Vietnam strongly and comprehensively supports the reform cause in Laos and believes that under the leadership of the LPRP, the management of the Government and the supervision of the National Assembly, Lao people will reap more achievements in the reform process, he said. 

Host and guest noted with delight the development of the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos in all fields. 

Sonexay Siphandone expressed his sympathy for human and property losses suffered by Vietnamese people during the recent floods, noting his belief that under the leadership of the CPV, Vietnamese people will overcome all difficulties and challenges to gain greater attainments in the reform process. 

The Lao Government will closely coordinate with its Vietnamese counterpart to instruct ministries, agencies and localities to effectively implement agreements signed by high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and countries, as well as agreements reached at the 39th meeting of the Inter-Governmental Committee, while preparing for the 40th meeting of the committee, he affirmed.-VNA
