Pham Cao Cuong of HCM City beat his teammate Nguyen Tien Minh to win the men’s singles category of the National Individual Badminton Tournament which wrapped up at the weekend in the northern province of Thái Bình.

Cuong beat Olympian Minh, who has won 13 titles in this category, 12-21, 21-13, 21-12.

In the women’s doubles, Vu Thi Trang and Nguyen Thi Sen of Bac Giang defeated Da Nang’s Nguyen Thuy Linh and Nguyen Thi Phuong Ha 18-21, 21-19, 21-10 to win gold.

After five days of competition, Hanoi's team took the lead with two golds, two silvers and one bronze. Bac Giang finished second with two golds and one bronze. With one gold, one silver and two bronzes, HCM City came third.

More than 100 athletes from 19 teams across the country took part in the tournament.
