The landslides have happened at three sections running through Lac Duong District in Lam Dong Province.
On September 14, local authorities sent workers and vehicles to mend a section which saw a landslide extending 50 metres in length and six metres in width in Da Sar Commune. This road was heavily damaged with cracks of up to 20 cm.
According to local people, landslides have occurred in this section for several years and become worse during rainy seasons.
"Soil and rocks usually fall from the hill down onto the road during the rains," a resident said. "It's very dangerous to travel on this road during that time, especially at night."
Two other road sections also saw landslides extending 30 metres and 10 metres.
According to the Xanh Viet Construction Investment Company which is mending the road, the causes of the landslides here include weak soil foundations and sloped terrain. Torrential heavy rains have saturated soil on the hillside along the road, causing soil and rocks to slide and fall down.
The Lam Dong Provincial Department of Transport said that they are spending VND5.40 billion to deal with the landslides in the locality, which will be completed by October.
