According to DAWACO, water in Cau Do River has suffered serious saltwater intrusion since February 2 with the peak recorded salinity of 2,112mg per litter measured at 7am on April 16.
Yesterday morning, the salinity exceeded 1,277 mg a litter which caused difficulties in raw water intake at the Cau Do Water Plant reducing capacity of water supply to Da Nang city.
Some higher places have seriously lacked freshwater for production and business.
Mr. Ho Huong, Director of DAWACO said that the company provides over 283,000 cubic meters per day to the city while the Cau Do and San Bay water plants transferrs over 268,000 cubic meters a day.
In case of the continuous increase of salinity, production and water supply for local people will face freshwater shortages.
DAWACO suggested the departments to ask the city People's Committee for flood flush from the upstream hydroelectricity reservoirs to reduce salinity in Cau Do River. SGGP
