According to Nguyen Huong, Vice Director of the Da Nang Customs Department, the force had discovered and followed a ring smuggling contrabands from other countries to Da Nang.

On March 24, they coordinated with authorised agencies to check a consignment of imported planks and uncovered over 9.1 tonnes of goods that they suspected to be elephant tusks hidden in the planks.

The force then found the consignee who insisted that it was importing timber, not elephant tusks, from Congo and accepted no responsibility for the case.

Currently, the Da Nang Customs Department is working with other forces to continue checking the consignment and complete dossiers before handing the case over to the police for further investigation.-VNA
