Located at the foot of Hai Van Pass in Hai Van Ward, Lien Chieu Port spans a planned area of 1,285 hectares. The project is divided into two components: Component A, the shared infrastructure funded by the state, and Component B, a public-private partnership involving domestic and international investors to develop container berths.

The state-funded Component A began construction at the end of 2022 with a total investment of over 3.426 trillion VND (approximately USD 137 million). This phase includes major works such as wave-blocking and breakwater structures, port access channels, berthing areas, internal roads, power and water supply systems, and auxiliary facilities.

97% of infrastructure now complete

As of January 19, most core components are either complete or near completion. The breakwater and wave barrier - spanning a total length of 1,170 meters - have been fully built. The connecting road to the port entrance, designed as a six-lane, 30-meter-wide highway, has been paved with asphalt and is nearly finished.

Workers are now rushing to complete final touches, including sidewalk stonework and the asphalting of the remaining access sections.

According to Da Nang’s Priority Infrastructure Project Management Board, construction was severely affected by rain and high waves during the implementation phase. However, contractors have mobilized additional equipment, materials, and manpower to meet the Tet deadline through continuous shifts and overtime.

Strategic port with regional ambitions

Lien Chieu Port is one of three key deep-water ports planned nationwide, and is classified as a “special port” under Vietnam’s master plan. Once operational, it will be capable of receiving bulk carriers up to 100,000 tons and container ships ranging from 6,000 to 8,000 TEU.

The port is designed to relieve pressure on Da Nang’s existing Tien Sa Port, while reducing road congestion in the urban core. It is also expected to enhance regional and inter-regional connectivity, supporting Da Nang’s long-term economic and social development.

In the future, Lien Chieu Port will be linked with Da Nang’s Free Trade Zone, creating favorable conditions for the city to become a regional and international transshipment hub and attract more foreign direct investment.

Additional infrastructure underway

Alongside the port, Da Nang is also building a coastal road to connect with the port. This road, nearly 3 kilometers long and featuring bridges, overpasses, and underpasses, carries a separate investment of 1.203 trillion VND (about USD 48 million).

Component B - the container berth investment - is drawing strong interest from leading global port operators and logistics groups.
