VietNamNet Bridge - After the Da Nang government said in the local media they were willing to purchase “good ideas”, many people from Hanoi, Saigon and overseas emailed suggestions to Da Nang’s Chairman Huynh Duc Tho. Some ideas have been selected for implementation.

The city’s Department of Foreign Affairs has proposed to the Da Nang People's Committee to implement an idea by a Saigon man - Nguyen Thien – to name some roads after the names of the sister cities of Da Nang.

According to Thien, Da Nang has set up sister-city relations with many cities around the world,including Oakland and Pittsburgh in the US, Kawasaki in Japan ...The question is how to promote the name of Da Nang to many countries wisely and efficiently.

Thien proposed to form a unique international area in Da Nang to attract foreign tourists through its relations with twinned cities.

Thien suggested that Da Nang should zone an area with roads named after the name of the sister cities. This area will be the home to street festivals of the host countries of the sister cities.

Based on Thien’s idea, the Da Nang Foreign Affairs Department has asked the Da Nang  People's Committee to consider turning An Thuong in My An Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District into a friendly tourism zone.

This area is located near the sea, attracts many tourists and is also close to the venue for a number of APEC 2017 events.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said that it is necessary to form an area of friendly streets, which are named after foreign cities that have cooperative relationship with Da Nang.

In this area, there will be Asian, European or American roads. The street name signs will include information on the relations between Da Nang and these foreign cities. Each street will host at least one construction work to symbolize the friendship between the two localities.

The naming of the street must have the consent of the sister cities, which would also name one of its streets after the name of Da Nang.

The department hoped that this will help advertise Da Nang in these cities, especially in the provinces of Japan and South Korea, the major tourism market of Vietnam.

The Da Nang People's Committee has also approved the idea to experimentally plant rose myrtle trees in the Son Tra Nature Reserve, an idea which was emailed to the city’s Chair Huynh Duc Tho by a local. The proposal was to "form a road of myrtle flowers in Son Tra Peninsula".

Da Nang will plant the trees on an area of about 300 m2 (30 m in length and 10 m in width) from January to September 2016.

Da Nang is willing to buy good ideas  

Da Nang’s Chair Huynh Duc Tho said: "The development of Da Nang in recent years has the great contribution of people throughout the country and abroad. When I stated that Da Nang is willing to buy the ideas of people, I myself expected to get nice ideas not only from the people of Da Nang but also people everywhere who have a passion for this city."

He also confirmed: "By the way, for professionals, researchers, particularly those who love Da Nang, I would like to remind them that Da Nang always welcomes and is willing to acquire good ideas that serve community interests. We affirm that the city leaders will strive and create all favorable conditions for turning these ideas into reality and we are willing to reward good ideas that are effectively applied in practice."

Tho said people can email him their ideas and the best will be considered by relevant agencies.

Da Nang is praised as the best city to live in Vietnam.
