The administrative centre of Đà Nẵng. The city will host the Smart City Summit with the participation of 600 delegates on October 24, and the Japan Information and Communication Technology Dayon October 23.

Vice director of the city’s information and communications, Phạm Ngọc Thạch told Việt Nam News yesterday that the annual information technology event would be a rendezvous for regional countries, CEOs and experts promoting solutions in developing a ‘smart’ cities and urban areas in the digital age.

Thạch said Đà Nẵng had been a popular destination for information technology (IT) investors and developers from domestic and foreign countries seeking opportunities in software exports.

He said this year's event would draw top experts in IT in the region discussing successful stories on developing smart cities based on the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and SMAC (Social, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud).

The summit would include four workshops on smart city operating; e-government and finance; infrastructure building and applications in a smart city.

Earlier, the city, in co-operation with Japanese partners, would host the Japan-Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Day on October 23 with 350 participants from Việt Nam and Japan.

The city aims to become a smart city and the first in Việt Nam to join the ASEAN smart city network by 2030.

It will develop smart management, smart economy, smart environment, smart living, smart citizens and smart traffic to connect the city to the 126 ASEAN smart city network, according to the city’s information and communications department.

Đà Nẵng was the first city in Việt Nam to launch an e-Government system in 2014, and transferred the system to 16 cities and provinces in 2016.

The city’s e-Government system has been used by 225 agencies and 4,000 users, and provides 1,200 online administration procedures, including one-stop shops, residential management, public transport and water supervision through the e-Government system.

The city’s software exports industry earned $78 million in 2018.

More than 3,000 IT businesses with 25,000 jobs, of which 43 per cent are in software services and IT outsourcing, operate in the city.

The city has launched the first stage of the 341ha Đà Nẵng Information Technology Park (DITP) – central Việt Nam’s ‘Silicon Valley’ - with total investment of $278 million.

The park will create revenue of $1.5 billion each year with 25,000 jobs and a satellite city of 100,000 people.

Also yesterday, the city launched a pilot project on a data service portal – a public open data source for the community and businesses.

It offers free 80 data sets for users searching through Zalo, SMS (Short Message Service) or Application Programming Interface (API).
