Da Nang is facing environmental problems

Da Nang in recent years has had to cope with the water pollution with ‘hot spots’ on Phu Loc River and beaches. One of the solutions is installing water environment monitoring stations at Phu Loc River, 29-3 Park and other lakes.

The monitoring system is designed and manufactured by CENTIC (Da Nang Center Of Integrated Circuits), a unit belonging to the Da Nang Science & Technology Department.

The system runs with solar energy automatically and can quickly update indexes about the water environment and transmit data to the city’s environment department.

Before the system was put into use on a large scale, it was used on a trial basis at Thac Giang Lake in Thanh Khe district in December 2016.

With the automatic water environment monitoring system, people and management agencies can easily keep real-time supervision over the water quality at the lake when accessing http://quantrac.centic.vn/.

The system will automatically send SMS to the mobile phones of city leaders and managerial officers if troubles occur.

According to deputy director of CENTIC Nguyen Hoai Duc, the sensor system and monitoring software operate on the internet to serve environment monitoring, which comes in line with Da Nang's strategy on developing a smart environmental management system

CENTIC also joined forces with the city’s agriculture department to create a forest fire monitoring camera. The camera was set up in Nam Hai Van Forest, where forest fires often occur.

CENTIC’s Tran Quoc Viet said the system can automatically discover forest fires based on discovery of smoke (the monitoring sphere is up to 4 kilometers), transmit images of the forest through software, collect environmental parameters (temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind direction) at the monitoring station, and then give alerts to the nearest specialized agency.

The system helps mitigate damages, calculates the forest fire levels, discovers deforestation activities illegal construction works on forestland, and keeps watch over natural calamities.

Like water environment monitoring system, the camera system is developed with domestic resources and Vietnamese technologies.

CENTIC also created many hi-tech products for urban area management, including traffic monitoring camera and air environment monitoring system.

As urbanization in Da Nang has quickened, the city needs smart solutions to manage the environment.
