Meanwhile, the Tho Quang Boat Shelter is full of smelly garbage.

From Da Nang Beach near Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains) to Lien Chieu District, 41 sluices discharge waste directly to the sea.

A worker at My Khe beach said in previous years, water was discharged in fits, but in July, water was discharged continuously, bringing dead animals and garbage to the beach.

The beautiful beaches of My Khe, Man Thai and Tho Quang are becoming seriously polluted as waste water continues to be discharged directly from local hotels and restaurants.
The Da Nang City Construction Department’s inspectors have discovered three buildings which discharge waste water directly into the sea. These include Sea Shore Hotel in Son Tra district owned by Chinwin Trade & Service Company, hotel construction works developed by Viet Nam Holiday, and an urban area – trade & service complex Royal Era 1 owned by TMS Hotel Da Nang.

Eleven households last July reported that tens of tons of caged fish farmed on Co Co River in Ngu Hanh Son district died overnight. The reason, as announced by a giver agency, was the polluted water caused by the waste treatment station.

Tho Quang Boat Shelter is a ‘hot spot’ in Da Nang City which has been famous not as the parking area for thousands of boats in the central region, but for serious pollution.

From the Man Quang Bridge in Son Tra district, one can see bags of garbage, small and big, on surface areas or grass. After many years of harboring garbage and waste sludge, the water at the shelter has become oily and black.

“Fourteen sanitary workers clean the shelter every day. However, new garbage will appear right after they tidy up,” said Ngo Van Cat, deputy chair of the Tho Quang Boat Shelter management board.

The Da Nang environment department has repeatedly warned that pollution at Tho Quang is alarming because of the discharge of untreated waste water from boats, and from seafood processing factories and garbage from fishing boats.

Tho Quang also produces bad odor because it cannot be dredged regularly.

Da Nang, to settle the pollution at My Khe Beach, decided to build a waste water collection system in the districts of Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son which cost VND4.4 billion.

However, the project has not settled the problem fully.

Mai Ma, director of the Da Nang Water Drainage Company, said the waste water volume increased by 3-4 times because of an increase in population and travelers.
