The Danang International Airport will see the T3 terminal, with a capacity of 30 million passengers per year, being put into operation this year.
Passengers at the T2 terminal of the Danang International Airport
The airport currently has two passenger terminals: T1 for domestic transport and T2 for international trips, accommodating a total of 14 million passengers per year. As such, when in place, the T3 terminal will take the airport's total capacity to 44 million passengers.
Talking about the reason for the construction of the T3 terminal, Truong Quang Nghia, secretary of the municipal Party Committee, told a recent conference held in Danang City that the city saw more than 13 million passengers transiting the airport in 2018, exceeding the planned volume for 2020 at 13 million passengers per year.
Given the rising number of passengers to Danang City, together with several air routes to the city being launched recently and flights to Danang City being increased, the expansion of the airport is needed to avoid the type of overload seen at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Nghia remarked.
The T3 terminal is expected to require estimated capital of VND10 trillion, while the T1 and T2 terminals received funding of VND1.3 trillion and VND3.5 trillion, respectively.
Twenty-three direct air routes to the central coastal city of Danang are operational, with a frequency of 328 weekly flights as of December 2018, growing by 86 flights year-on-year.
