VietNamNet Bridge – The submarine named Danang is expected to arrive at Cam Ranh Bay in Khanh Hoa Province in late January 2016.
The HQ-182 Hanoi, the first Kilo submarine of Vietnam, was transported to Cam Ranh by Rolldock Sea vessel on December 31, 2013.
Colonel Tran Thanh Nghiem, head of the Submarine Brigade 189, has verified the information and said that the submarine is the 5th in the contract for six Varshavyanka 636.1 (kilo) submarines to be built for Vietnam, signed between Deputy Minister of Defense and Vietnam Navy Commander Nguyen Van Hien and the CEO of Russia’s Rosoboronexport, Mr. Anatoliy Isaykin, on 15/12/2009.
Major Nguyen Thanh Vinh, captain of Da Nang submarine, says that preparation to take the submarine to Vietnam has been completed.
Officers and soldiers of the submarine have been trained and they are ready to operate the vehicle to defend Vietnam’s marine sovereignty and islands.
Project 636.1 diesel-electric submarines are third-generation submarines equipped with a Club anti-boat missile system, which considerably expands the splash zone. Due to their super-low noise level, these submarines are called ‘black holes in the ocean’.
Last August, at the military port of Cam Ranh, the High Command of the Navy held the flag-raising ceremony on the two Kilo 636 submarines named 184 Hai Phong and 185 Khanh Hoa.
Earlier, the HQ-182 Hanoi, the first Kilo submarine of Vietnam, was transported to Cam Ranh by Rolldock Sea vessel on December 31, 2013. The second submarine named HQ-183 Ho Chi Minh City was transported by Rolldock Star vessel to Vietnam on 19/3/2014.
