Danang City’s government has urged Cam Le District to carefully consider pros and cons when seeking to develop horse and dog racecourses, said Huynh Van Hung, director of the Culture and Sports Department of Danang.
Staff of the dog racecourse at Lam Son Stadium in Vung Tau City walk dogs around before each race so that spectators can place bets. Danang City’s government hesitates about projects to build horse and dog racecourses due to concerns over social issues
The Party secretary of the city, Truong Quang Nghia, has also expressed concern over such projects, Hung told the Daily on April 18.
“Horse and dog racing is thought to be similar to gambling so a review is needed,” Hung said, citing Nghia’s direction, requesting district authorities to reassess the projects and collect public opinion.
Besides, Hung revealed that a project to develop Hoa Xuan Sports Complex is underway in Hoa Xuan Ward, so horse and dog racecourse projects should be part of the complex rather than independent ones.
At a function earlier this month to honor 50 exemplary enterprises in Cam Le, a leader of the district said the two projects to build horse and dog racecourses were among six projects calling for investment. The other four comprise a general hospital, Hoa Xuan Sports Complex, an international gastronomy village, and Cam Le Indistrial Park.
