Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on July 15 signed a decision to appoint Dao Hong Lan as the new health minister

The appointment was made after the prime minister’s Decision No.839/QD-TTg was signed on the same date.

Dao Hong Lan is the first acting Minister of Health who is not a doctor or a pharmacist among the 14 appointed ministers of health since 1945.

She was born in 1971 in the northern province of Hai Duong. She has a Master's Degree in Economics and is a member of the 12th Party Central Committee (alternate), the 13th Party Central Committee, and delegate of the 15th National Assembly.

Lan will replace former Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long, who was dismissed for his involvement in the COVID-19 test kit scam by Viet A Company, causing severe consequences and public asset losses.

The Ministry of Health now has four deputy ministers namely Do Xuan Tuyen, Nguyen Truong Son, Tran Van Thuan, and Nguyen Thi Lien Huong.
