Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang led a defence delegation to visit Cuba from September 8-11 at the invitation of his Cuban counterpart Sen. Lieut. Gen. Alvaro Lopez Miera.

At a meeting on September 9, Gen. Miera lauded the Vietnamese delegation’s visit, describing it as an evidence of the loyal friendship between the two armies.
The visit will help foster defence cooperation between the two countries, he said.
For his part, Giang reiterated that the Vietnamese Party, State, people and army remember the support and wholehearted friendship the Cuban Party, Government, people and the Cuba Revolutionary Armed Forces has provided Vietnam over the years.
Vietnamese leaders, people and armed forces keep in mind President Fidel Castro’s saying “For Vietnam, we are ready to shed our blood,” showing the great support of the Cuban Party, State, people and armed forces for the Vietnamese people at the most difficult time of the Vietnamese liberation war, he said.
The same day, member of the Politburo, member of the State Council and Minister of the Cuba Revolutionary Armed Forces, Sen. Lieu. Gen. Leopoldo Cintra Frias and a high-ranking delegation of the Cuba Revolutionary Armed Forces had talks with Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang and the Vietnamese delegation.
The two sides agreed to expand bilateral cooperation and experience sharing to consolidate the ties between the two countries and two militaries.
