The move comes after a series of articles between March 19 and 26 was published in the Labour newspaper, reporting that vehicles were found running illegally not only in the inner parts of the city but also at the Noi Bai International Airport. These vehicles, labelled as tourist cabs, could pick up and drop off passengers at many places instead of bus stations.

The newspaper reported that this practice caused an estimated damage of thousands of billions of VND for the State treasury each year due to tax loss.

Bình ordered the People’s Committee of Hanoito strictly deal with any violation and send a report to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc before April 10.

The Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Transport were also asked to co-operate with the People’s Committee to fix the situation. — VNS
